Division I Volleyball Announces Year's Best in Region 11
The ICCAC Division I Volleyball All-Region and special awards have been announced after another year of Indian Hills and Iowa Western battling for the top spot. The Warriors claimed the Region 11 title after sweeping the Reivers, finishing 25-8 overall, while Iowa Western closed the year at 29-10.
As Region 11 champions, Indian Hills earned four spots on the All-Region team.
Leading the way for the Warriors was ICCAC Player of the Year Asialin Powell, a defensive specialist. Powell recorded 635 digs this season, ranking fifth in the NJCAA, and was also fifth in digs per set at 5.57. She posted 20 or more digs in 15 of 33 matches and reached double digits in all but one match.
Joining Powell on the All-Region team are Piper Nelson, Ana Luisa, and Luana Ferreira. Nelson was the Warriors' top offensive option with 314 kills, averaging 2.78 per set and totaling 375.5 points.
Ferreira contributed 211 kills on a .316 hitting percentage and dominated the net with 88 blocks.
Luisa was the go-to setter all season, surpassing the millennium mark with 1,121 assists. She ranks fourth in the NJCAA in total assists and second in assists per set at 10.99.
Iowa Western placed three players on the All-Region team after a strong season that ended in the Midwest District-B championship match. The Reivers' selections are Lelia Fritz, Callie Squiers, and Kendall Picolet.
Picolet led the Reivers with 355 kills and 2.84 kills per set at outside hitter.
Squiers led the NJCAA with 1,255 assists, ranking No. 1 nationally. She also finished eighth in NJCAA Division I with 9.23 assists per set. Defensively, she added 411 digs and 73 blocks.
Fritz, playing middle blocker, controlled the net with 100 blocks and added 203 kills and 126 digs in her first season as a Reiver.
Rounding out the Division I Volleyball awards is ICCAC Coach of the Year Lyndsey Michel. It is her fifth time winning the honor after leading the Warriors to Region and District titles. Indian Hills now heads to the NJCAA National Tournament with a 25-8 record.
